CONSTRUCTION: FILMING

Today; Sophie, Marcus and I filmed a short scene of Aaron reading a newspaper, as he's meant to be watching someone he is following. This idea was inspired by the trailer Taken, which I showed to the group in order to spark inspiration as I thought the trailer was very successful.

This was the scene from Taken we liked:

I filmed the scene of Marcus, and used the rule of thirds and the quadrant system, which I learnt about HERE from the film drive:

CONSTRUCTION: EDITING

Today I continued editing, today I edited the part where Sydney hands The Ghost her bag filled with money. To do this I made it a jump cut as well as zooming in with each cut. This makes the trailer more suspense and faster pace, keeping the audience interested and watching.

I also edited the scene of Sydney's death which was different as I portrayed her death with photographs. I decided when we filmed that scene that it would be interesting to have an almost stop motion section of how Sydney dies. To make sure this was successful in editing the photos had to be quick. I also added a flash before and after the death to make it take little be quicker to create the fast pace of the trailer.

I also edited another section with images, when Aaron is told he is being arrested for being in contact with the ghost, I took photos of the emails Aaron sent to the ghost, each photo zooming in. I put this in the trailer, again with flashes in the middle, just so the transition was smooth.

I think using jump cuts and quick moving images work well in A Question of Identity, as it sets the fast pace of the trailer along with giving it style.

CONSTRUCTION: EDITING

Today I continued with editing, I edited the section where Aaron goes to the place of his sister's death, as he looks around the area filled with grief, there is a fade out to a flashback where the audience see's Sydney arguing with her killer, The Ghost. This lets the audience make the connection that Aaron is trying to avenge his sister, however he is also still grieving and is clearly taking his sister's death hard. The scene then fades back to Aaron in the warehouse.
Here is a clip of that scene:

PLANNING: POSTER

When thinking of the idea of my poster, I looked at many different posters. The three I liked the best were the ones below.
For this poster, I liked the dissolving effect where the characters bodies dissolve into the background. I thought this would work well for my poster. I thought Aaron's body can disintegrate as it shows how he is loosing himself and links back the the title 'A Question of Identity.

For this poster I love the white background contrasted strongly with the villain, who is dark and in black. I also believe having the subject of the villain in the villain's body outline is strong as it shows how the victim loses to the villain. I thought my poster could feature the ghost and have his body fade into a picture of Sydney with the passports. This shows how The Ghost controlled Sydney and gives the audience a slight insight to the movies plot.
For this poster, I love the strip showing the car crash, it gives an insight to the plot line of the movie. I think it grasps the viewers attention and makes them curious as to what happens in the film and makes them want to watch it. For my poster, I thought I could have the strip being Sydney and The Ghost making the passport deal in the warehouse.

For my poster, I am going to combine the idea I got from Unknown and Looper, and have Aaron dissolving into the background, and have a strip showing why Sydney died. For the background I plan to use a very dark blue/grey colour.

MUSEUM OF MOVING IMAGES

I visited New York over the Christmas and while there I visited the Museum of Moving Images. While there I learnt a lot on sound, editing and everything that goes into making a movie. I also saw things such the first film projector. Below are some images from my trip. I made this collage by using the app called fuzel:

There was also tasks to do in the editing section where you could add sound and choice which soundtrack and sound effects you wanted. For the soundtrack I used the film Twister for an example and for the sound effects I used Jurassic Park.

INDEPENDENT FILMING

Over Christmas I went to New York, while I was there I filmed some clips of subways, street signs and buildings. I took these in order to make the trailer mutli-locational, I filmed these scenes so we could use them, we are going to use the air shot of London as an establishing shot. However I filmed there just in case. I thought my group could use the shots of London I took from the airplane when I was arriving back in the UK. I though these would be great establishing shots for our trailer.

I filmed a God's eye view of London from the airplane's descent to London.
